Last week has been the World Heart Rhythm Week – a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias) and the dangers associated with them.
We took part in three ways:
1. Heartbeat Rhyme
We asked ChatGPT to help us put together a little rhyme. This is what it came up with:
Your heart keeps time with a gentle beat,
A rhythmic pulse, so strong, so sweet.
It dances on in perfect flow,
A quiet song we rarely know.
But if it stumbles, skips, or flies,
It’s wise to seek the reason why.
For every thump, both fast and slow,
Tells stories only hearts can know.
2. Our Founder at House of Commons
Dr Chris Crockford – the founder of Your Heart Check – attended an event at the House of Commons where industry leaders shared the latest knowledge and developments in the field.
Trudi Lobban – the CEO of Atrial Fibrillation Association – updated the industry on prevalence of the disease and efforts the charities go to to promote awareness of the disease and provide support to patients globally.
Prof. Andre Ng – the President of British Cardiovascular Society – focused on patients who present with fast AFib (Atrial Fibrillation) in A&E, and described the treatment they receive, which includes medication and virtual monitoring of their heart.
3. Heart Facts
We ended our celebration by sharing a few heart facts you might not know:
- The word arrhythmia was first introduced in 1872 by Heidenhain, a German physiologist.
- A heart beats approximately 115,000 times each day, and pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood.
- Heart cancer is rare because heart cells stop dividing.
- The heart rhythm is controlled by the cardiac conduction system.
- A man’s heart beats slightly slower than a woman’s heart.
- It is possible to die from a broken heart syndrome.
- The largest heart of any mammal is that of a whale; the smallest heart of any species belongs to the fairy fly.
